Lest We Not Forget

President Obama just announced the end of combat operations by U.S. forces in Iraq and that all U.S. forces will be out of Iraq by the end of 2011. While that is great news, the fact is American servicemen are still dying, and at record numbers, in the war in Afghanistan. This past weekend was a deadly one for U.S. forces, where 1,150 U.S. troops have died to date. Five more were killed today. My point is not a political one, but one of remembrance, and it's the reason I post outside my home the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan, just as I did those killed in Iraq. The numbers are displayed and lighted all night long for those who walk their dogs or drive by so they don't forget that young men and women who choose to serve their country are still dying on foreign soil.

But remember there are a lot of citizens of middle eastern countries killed by the U.S. army, too.
