Spy Planes and Space Shuttles

The SR-71 Blackbird, one of America's premiere spy planes highlights the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum located near Dulles International Airport outside Washington, DC. The aircraft, when in service, flew at March 3.3 (approximately 2,200 mph) at an altitude of 85,000 feet. On its last flight, March 6, 1990, the SR-71 set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 20 seconds. Behind it is the Space Shuttle Enterprise.
