No More Butts?

Students from our photojournalism classes were sent out to take photographs that would be used to support a recent story in Penn State's Daily Collegian on a local ordinance that has been drafted that would create a smoke-free State College. The only stipulation for the photographers was that they could photograph anyone actually smoking. This image by Dan Cooney shows a student walking along Allen Street in State College where parking meters sport butt containers. They may disappear if the ordinance is passed.

Hot Seat

Steve Sampsell participates in a mock crisis press conference by asking questions to Comm. 471 student Erin Bankey Thursday at Innovation Park in State College. The press conference is part of my Media Methods public relations class that requires students to act as a spokesperson holding a press conference on a real-world crisis. Students prepare and respond to questioning by reporters and broadcast journalism students in a press room atmosphere under intense lights and television cameras for about nine minutes.

Student Escorts

Penn State used student escorts for the various NCAA men's gymnastics teams competing in the 2007 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships at Rec. Hall in State College.

Caught!

As I covered the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships at Penn State last night, I scanned the crowd between events looking for friends and colleagues and found Stephanie. Unfortunately, she caught me trying to grab candid during the event.
